After serving six years as Manhattan Beach’s director of Public Works, Jim Arndt will retire from service at the end of May, City Manager Dave Carmany said Wednesday.
“After 41 years in the Public Works field, concluding my career in Manhattan Beach seems natural,” Arndt said in a statement. “It is a community of high energy and expectations, and has provided a perfect closure to my career.”
During his tenure, Arndt notably oversaw the city’s water and energy conservation programs and the new library project, Carmany said, but his greatest accomplishment was assisting the city in developing a pathyway to address and sustain its aging utility infrastructure.
“Jim Arndt has guided the Public Works team to its current reputation–a department that is reliable, effective and highly innovative in working to maintain a superior quality of life for those who live, work and play in Manhattan Beach,” Carmany said.
Prior to his 30 years in county and city roles as a Public Works director, Arndt, a registered civil engineer, spent 10 years as a consultant in private sector development.
