Mickey’s is 70, but sauce sandwich never grows old

Mickey’s Deli owners Paul and Mickey Mance welcome customers to the 70th anniversary of their store on Saturday morning. Mickey’s motto is “Our family feeding yours since 1953. In the ‘50s Mickey senior invented the hot Marinara Sauce sandwich, which he sold to shivering surfers for a nickel. (Today, the Marinara Sauce sandwich is still the cheapest sandwich in town, at $3.50). “We owe it all to you,” Paul told his customers. Photos by Kevin Cody

Mickey’s Deli customers lined up around the block Saturday morning to join in the store’s 70th anniversary. Sandwiches were 70 cents, and included tickets to a raffle for a 65 inch television, and free pizzas and sandwiches for a year.
