Noah Steinmetz is just six year old, and weighs just 55 pounds. He’s a first grader at Eader Elementary School in Huntington Beach. But already he is attracting the attention of surf industry sponsors such as Frog House and Black Flys Sunglasses.
He showed why during the Spyder Surf/South Bay Boardriders Club contest Saturday at the Manhattan Beach pier. Steinmetz is a wave catching machine, and he’s tough. After getting clocked in the chops by another competitor’s board, he paddled back out as if nothing had happened.
Despite being the youngest competitor in the micro grom division (under 9) he finished third out of nearly two dozen competitors in the SBBC five-contest series.
Steinmetz’s parents Kurt and Susan attributed their son’s uncanny balance to having given him a trampoline when he was two.
During the contest he rode a 5-foot-10 Lost, but he has a 4-foot-6 board on order. ER
