On Saturday January 16, all 11 schools in the South Bay Scholastic Surfing Association competed at the Hermosa Beach Pier in the league’s Annual Team Challenge. Surf was consistently fun with waist to chest sized waves.

“The team challenge is an unique event,” said SBBSA League Director Dickie O’Reilly. “Each surf team picks three shortboarders, one bodyboarder, one boy’s longboarder, one girl’s longboarder and one girl’s shortboarder. The format allows a ‘double whammy’ to double one scoring wave.”

O’Reilly said top performances came from Mira Costa’s Peter Matt Hodges and Andrew Neal and Palos Verdes’ Jack Rowan and Peter Healey.
