Mira Costa High surf team bags bragging rights over Redondo High [PHOTOS]

The first of what organizers promise will be an annual competition, pitting surf team alumni from Mira Costa and Redondo high schools was held Saturday, April 7 in clean, two- to three-foot surf on the south side of the Hermosa Beach pier.

Four surfers from each school faced off in two, hour-long heats, followed by a finals. Mira Costa jumped out to an early lead, but Redondo narrowed the gap during the finals, thanks to the fact that finals’ scores counted as double points. Mira Costa held on to win 343 to 336.
The event was organized by A.M.I Productions’ Jani Lange of Redondo and Spyder Surf’s Dickie O’Reilly of Mira Costa as a fundraiser for their schools’ surf teams. DZ
