Mira Costa, El Segundo advance in boys water polo playoffs

In a rematch of last year’s CIF-SS Division 3 championship game, Mira Costa defeated visiting Santiago/Corona 16-8 Thursday advancing to Saturday’s Division 2 quarterfinal round.

Jake Miller-Tolt led the fourth-seeded Mustangs with four goals and Finn Pardon added three goals in the win.

Mira Costa (23-6) is the only Bay League team to advance and will play at San Clemente (16-13) Saturday.

Bay League runner-up Palos Verdes (20-8) lost a heartbreaker at third-seeded Los Osos 12-11. After defeating Corona 12-7 I a wild-card game, Peninsula (13-13) was eliminated by top-seeded Foothill 19-2.

In Division 4, third-seeded El Segundo (23-5) defeated visiting Atascadero 19-11 and will travel to Glendale (18-11) on Saturday.

Nick Paz recorded five goals and Anthony Rotolo added four goals for the Eagles.

Chadwick (10-8) saw its season end with a 13-9 loss at Sunny Hills.

Semifinals will be played Wednesday, Nov. 19 at William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine. Finals are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22 at the same venue.
