A man who went missing while in the water off 18th Street in Manhattan Beach on Apr. 19  was believed to be found Wednesday afternoon at Dockweiler Beach in El Segundo, according to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“There was a male body that did wash up ashore,” said Deputy Juanita Navarro. “We believe it is the swimmer we were looking for; however the identity of the individual is going to be determined by the Los Angeles County coroner.”

A bystander called 911 a little after noon to report a dead body washing ashore, according to Los Angeles County Lifeguards spokesperson Lidia Barillas.

The lifeguards, sheriff’s department and the El Segundo Fire Department reported to the scene.

Media reports at the time of the man’s disappearance identified him as Derrick Jeffries, 25, of Hawthorne.

Deputy Navarro said that the identity of the dead man wouldn’t be released until his next of kin was notified. ER
