Mizuno girls win two national volleyball championships

The Long Beach Mizuno 12 Volleyball Club made the most its trip to Detroit, Mich. when the girls captured the National Division at the USA Volleyball Junior Olympics national championships on June 30.

Run by Directors Joy McKienzie-Fuerbringer and husband Matt Fuerbringer of Hermosa Beach, Long Beach Mizuno also claimed the title in the 15 American Division with its Rockstar C team.

Head Coach Tiffany Rodriguez led the 12 team to a 10-1 record, falling only to Mets Femenino 25-20, 15-25, 15-13 during pool play.

The team advanced defeating Encore Navy 25-12, 25-21, Madfrog Blue 25-15, 25-15 then the ASICS Mavs 27-25, 25-19 to claim the title.

It’s been quite a run for the Rodriguez family whose son, Sebastian, was not only a member of the the 1st place Balboa U16 team that won the National Championship but he was also named tournament MVP.

Winning the American Division in the 15-year-old age group was the Mizuno Rockstar C team comprised of Hannah Sauer (Redondo High), Jaena Bell, Kerrigan Livingston, Katherine Day, Elizabeth O’Shea, Caroline O’Shea, Aniah Cutler, Assistant Coach Lacey Fuller, Assistant Coach Mike Campbell, All-Tournament selection Tasman Mullins (Mira Costa), Tournament MVP Jennifer Wroblicky (South Torrance), Mikayla Nolte and Head Coach Carlos Briceno.

In the boys tournament held in Phoenix, AZ, Team Rockstar won the 15 Open Division. Team members included: Garrett Carver (Mira Costa), John Belardi (Manhattan Beach), Austin Stuard (Mira Costa), Kristof Corbell (Hermosa Beach), Ethan Gordon (Manhattan Beach), Spencer Williams, Camden Miner (Mira Costa), Assistant Coach Shane Beatty, Liam Navarro (El Segundo), Kyle Johnson (Mira Costa), Ben Coordt (Mira Costa), Sean McQuiggan (Mira Costa), Jim Garrison (Mira Costa), Max Lossone (South Torrance) and Head Coach Alfred Reft. ER
