The City of Redondo Beach is seeking further community input on future uses for the old library at Veterans Park.

After a March survey and open house at the library, the Recreation and Parks Commission was set to meet on the matter Wednesday. Another open house is scheduled for April 27, from 4-6 p.m.

A Public Art Commission meeting in May will also address the 1931 library, which in recent years has been used as an events venue.

The city council voted earlier this year to gather ideas from the public before filing a request for proposals.

The three-level library closed in 1991 because of earthquake damage. Following restoration, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Previous leaseholder Spectrum Catering bowed out in 2020 at the expiration of its contract, when large group gatherings were banned due to the pandemic.

The process to decide future uses for the building is being managed by the City of Redondo Beach Community Services Department (communityservices@redondo.org). ER
