Russell Scott Goldberg, 49, who was sought by police after being identified as a suspect in the homicide of his ex-wife Margaret Goldberg, 45, was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound after a standoff on Interstate 15 in Utah.

Around 9:38 a.m. on Wednesday, Margaret Goldberg was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds after police officers were called to her home on the 1200 block of Agate by the concern of a caller from New York. After identifying Russell Goldberg as a person of interest, police sent out a flyer and an alert was sent out with his information and a description of his 2007 Green Saturn Vue. Because of the nature of his ex wife’s death, he was believed to have been armed and dangerous.

Detectives located the vehicle in Beaver County, Utah on Interstate 15 later that day. According to a press release, Utah Highway Patrol, Cedar City Section 11  pursued the vehicle.

At about 6:45 p.m. (Mountain Time) the  pursuit ended, and a barricaded situation developed. At about 9:40 p.m. (Mountain Time) a Utah Highway Patrol tactical team approached the vehicle and discovered the suspect was dead. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Margaret and Russell Goldberg had recently finalized their divorce, police said. An acquaintance of the family who knew both Margaret and Russell Goldberg through youth soccer described it as “an ugly divorce” and noted that the two would both attend games to watch their children play but would always stand on opposite sides of the field.

Both of their children are safe and are currently being cared for.
