Delis come in many varieties, from the garlic-scented Italian variety and the German sausagefest to the classic Jewish version complete with more varieties of smoked fish than you knew existed.
Ashley’s is a California deli, which means that they’ve taken a little from various traditions and added a health-conscious and homemade slant. You can get that excellent pastrami, Italian sub, or Black Forest ham sandwich but also turkey chili, soups, and salads that are made in house. The meats and cheeses are premium quality, and if you see various ingredients that you want combined into your own invention, they’ll happily make it for you. The traditions are all there, and so is an eclectic edge – wander their grocery section while your sandwich is being made and you’re likely to leave with gourmet snacks to complement your feast.
