Beach Cities Sports: Flag football, running, ultraman, yoga and more

Ultraman Extreme: Jack Nunn, a 36-year-old athlete from Manhattan Beach resident will be competing in the Ultraman Extreme endurance race in Orlando, Florida from February 15-17th. The 3-day athletic endeavor tests an athlete’s physical and mental limits, covering a total distance of 321.6 miles around central Florida. Each participant completes a 6.2 mile (10K) open water swim, a 263 mile (423K) bike ride, and a 52.4 mile (84K) ultra-marathon run. Day 1 is a 6.2 mile swim and 92 mile bike, Day 2 is a 171 mile bike, and Day 3 is a 52.4 mile run. Nunn is competing in the race to honor his father, John, who won the Bronze Medal in rowing at the 1960 Olympics in Rome, Italy.

 

Running: Registration is ongoing for the 41st Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K/5K Run/Walk, to be held Sunday, Feb. 3, and hosted by the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. The event includes a two-day Health and Fitness Expo, a Baby Buggy 10K, Kids Run, pre-race Costume Contest presented by the King Harbor Association and Michelob Ultra Post Race Hospitality Area. Participants receive a finisher medal and T-shirt with custom awards presented to the top three male and female finishers in each category. Entry fees are $40 (5K), $45 (10K) and $15 (Kids Run). Registration is open for the 16th Annual Village Runner St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run and Community Walk to be held at 8 a.m. Sunday, Mar. 17 in Redondo Beach’s Riviera Village. Following the 5K at 9:30 a.m. will be the kid’s Little Leprechaun Dash for Gold. All participants will receive a St. Patrick’s Day Run t-shirt. There will be chip timing, age division awards and cash prizes to the top three overall male and female runners in the 5K run. Entry fees are $35 for adults and $30 for kids (add $5 after Feb. 13). Flag Football: Prank Monkey will be holding its Sunday Flag Football season from Feb. 10 – Apr. 7 at 10th and the Strand in Hermosa Beach. The 4-on-4 Coed league costs $280 per team. Games are played from 2:30-4:30 p.m. For more information, contact prankmonkeysports.com.

 

Yoga: Yoga on the Octagon at the Redondo Beach Pier is free for all levels. Held Wednesdays 6 – 7 p.m., 500 Fisherman’s Wharf, Redondo Beach (west end of the pier behind Tony’s). Bring a yoga mat, towel and water. Redondopier.com.
