Hermosa Beach Police Beat, 17 December

Store burglary

A burglar broke into a store in South Hermosa earlier this month, taking a wide variety of items.

The thief entered the business in the 300 block of Pacific Coast Highway in the morning of December 2, according to police reports. Evidence at the scene indicates that the burglar broke a window in the business’ restroom in the rear of the building before the business had opened.

The suspect proceeded to ransack the business, police said. The burglar took several wall-mounted flat-screen televisions, cash and a Keurig coffee maker.

All of the goods were loaded into a trash can from the business, police said. The suspect then hauled the items out the business’ front door and fled by unknown means.

Christmas Counterfeiter

A suspect attempted to use counterfeit money to purchase a Christmas wreath last week.

Police were alerted to the fraud at the Kiwanis Christmas Tree Lot about 8 p.m. on December 8, according to police reports.

The business was successful in stopping the attempt.

Hermosa police have previously reported a rise in the seizure of counterfeit money, and urge businesses to have currency pens or black lights, which can detect fraudulent bills, available at checkout areas.

Window Smashed

A suspect stole various items from a car Sunday evening after breaking the vehicle’s window.

The victim alerted police to the theft about 7 p.m. Sunday, after finding the passenger-side window of the vehicle smashed in. The vehicle was parked in the 1600 block of Pacific Coast Highway.
After smashing the window, the burglar stole a backpack containing school supplies and multiple credit cards.
