Cold case arrest

On July 3 at approximately 9:45 p.m., reserve officers and cold case Investigators responded to LAX and arrested a rape suspect after he arrived in Los Angeles on a flight from Canada. According to police reports, the suspect was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for a rape that occurred in Redondo Beach in 2006. The suspect has been residing in Florida since shortly after the crime was allegedly committed. The arrest warrant was the result of a cold case investigation that led to the identification of the suspect by using DNA.

Pole hit and run

On June 29, at 2:33 a.m., residents in the area of the 1800 blk. of the Esplanade reported hearing a vehicle skid and hit a pole. Responding officers observed that a light pole had been knocked over and was leaning against a sanitation pump station. The driver responsible for the collision fled the scene and was not located. The vehicle may have parked at a nearby residence. Police are asking that anyone with any information regarding the incident call (310) 379-2477 x1-2359.
