Police Reports Redondo Beach; Dec. 5- Dec. 12

Wheel and deal

According to a police report, two bicycles within an estimated value of $2,000-5,000 apiece, were stolen from two different secured, underground parking structures near the Esplanade blocks of 500 and 600 on Dec. 6.

 

Drive and dump

At approximately 1:00 p.m on Dec. 7., a neighborhood resident observed a suspect enter a residence through a window near 2800 block West 190th Street. According to police, a neighbor notified police, provided a description of the suspect and continued to watch the residence until police arrived. The neighbor noticed a woman sitting in a parked car near the location. The woman in the car honked the horn and drove away.

According to reports, officers arrived and located the suspect as he attempted to flee from the residence. The suspect “dumped” property into a trash can to the rear of Tak’s Lawn Mower Shop at 2811 West 190th Street. Officers determined that a burglary had occurred at the residence where the suspect was previously seen. Another officer saw the woman in the vehicle drive into the Lamps Plus parking lot at190th Street andHawthorne Boulevard and he detained her.

Quick shooter

Approximately 5:40 a.m on Dec. 9., a resident called to report that his home was being burglarized. According to police, the caller abandoned the 9-1-1 line, apparently to pursue the suspect. Responding officers checked the area and encountered a newspaper delivery person. The newspaper person told officers that twenty minutes earlier he had seen a person in a plaid shirt running west on Harriman Lane, then disappear down a driveway on the north side of the street. 

According to reports, officers contacted the original caller. During the interview, the caller admitted that he fired a shot during the incident. The caller believed that someone entered his residence, so he went outside to look around. According to police, the caller saw a white vehicle driving west onHarriman Lane. The caller went to his parked vehicle and retrieved a 9mm handgun. The caller observed the white vehicle stop and make a u-turn at the dead-end of the street. Apparently fearing for his safety, the caller ducked into the nearby parkette. The caller believed he heard and saw someone start to come over the wall behind him and the caller turned and fired a round toward the wall. The caller ran back to his residence.

Based on the caller’s statement, combined with the location of a 9mm casing on the ground, officers checked residences on Harriman and Huntington Lanes. Officers could not find the expended bullet. 

Officers arrested the caller and seized the 9mm handgun without incident.

 

Bike hold-up

On Dec. 10 a victim was riding a bicycle north onGoodman Avenuebetween Havemeyer and Morgan Lanes at approximately 8:30 a.m. and was confronted by a suspect who jumped in front of the victim. According to police, the suspect kicked the front tire of the victim’s bicycle causing the victim to fall to the ground. The victim stood up and saw the suspect holding a knife with an eight inch blade. The suspect demanded the victim’s backpack. The victim removed the backpack and set it on the ground. A second suspect appeared and grabbed the backpack. The first suspect demanded the victim’s wallet. According to reports, the victim stated, “I do not have one.” The suspects ran east onMorgan Lane. The investigation is ongoing.

 

Caught in the act

At approximately 2:40 a.m on Dec. 11., an off-duty officer observed one suspect in a parked vehicle with three other suspects standing next to the vehicle. According to a police report, the officer turned to look at the suspects and the suspects ran east onCurtis Lane. Two suspects were detained by responding on-duty officers.

According to police, officers found a vehicle parked in the 1900 block ofCurtis Lane, with its door open and interior light on. The vehicle was ransacked with no signs of forced entry. One of the suspects admitted to entering the unlocked vehicle, which did not belong to the suspect. The other suspect was in possession of a blue permanent marker. This suspect admitted to “tagging” a bathroom at nearbyAndersonPark. Officers checked the bathroom and located fresh blue marker paint on the door.  Both suspects were arrested. One suspect was charged with auto tampering and the other for vandalism and possession of graffiti tools. Officers checked the area for the other suspects, but they were not located.
