Police search for counterfeiter

Police are asking for help in identifying a suspected counterfeiter who used a falsified driver’s license in an attempt to withdraw money from a Manhattan Beach bank.

The incident occurred on Sept. 14 at Chase bank on the 700 block of S. Sepulveda Blvd. According to police reports, a woman approached a teller with a signed withdrawal slip for $2,000 and presented a New York driver’s license as identification. The teller noticed that neither the signature nor the driver’s license number matched those on file. The woman left the bank before authorities could be notified, leaving behind both the I.D. and the signed slip.

Police believe the woman left in a white Ford van. She is described as an African American, 25 to 35 years old, 5 feet 6 inches, 200 pounds, with black hair worn in a bun. Anyone with information is asked to contect Manhattan Beach Police Department Det. Peterson at 310-802-5132.
