Arrest in hit-and-run death on Aviation Blvd.

Redondo Beach Police made an arrest in a vehicle-pedestrian hit-and-run crash that killed a 21-year-old woman on Saturday night.

Leila Gonzalez, 21, of Bell, was arrested on Monday, Jan. 28, on suspicion of being the driver in the hit-and-run that killed Angelina Pinedo on the 1500 block of Aviation Boulevard. Gonzalez admitted to police that she drove the black Audi SUV that was involved in the crash, police said.

Pinedo was crossing Aviation Boulevard at Grant Avenue, headed west, when she was struck by the SUV. The driver did not stop after the crash, continuing south on Aviation Boulevard. Pinedo died of injuries she sustained in the collision.

Gonzalez was booked into the Redondo Beach jail on charges of felony hit-and-run resulting in death/injury, with bail set at $50,000. The Audi, recovered by police a day before her arrest, was impounded as evidence.

A fundraiser to support the Pinedo family has been established at gofundme.com/remembering-angelina-pinedo.
