Congressman Ted Lieu to hold South Bay Town Hall

Congressman Ted Lieu will host a community town hall at the El Segundo High School Performing Arts Center on Aug. 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

This will be an opportunity for constituents to hear directly from Lieu on current events in Washington, D.C., voice their opinions on issues important to them, and ask questions. Outside signs and banners will not be allowed inside the auditorium.

Parking is available in the lot at the intersection of Standard Street and East Mariposa Avenue, and at Main Street and West Mariposa Ave. For more information, please call Lieu’s office at 323-651-1040.

Rowing for a Reason with Body One Fitness and Cancer Support Community

Body One Fitness will present the fifth annual “Row for a Reason” event to raise funds for Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach on Friday, Sept. 6, from 4 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 7, from 7 a.m. to noon. Body One Fitness is located at 201 Herondo St., Redondo Beach.  Gym owner and Row for a Reason founder Lou Sidella will dedicate all rowing machines to the fundraiser for the duration of the event.

Sidella created Row for a Reason as a fundraiser to appeal to avid rowers and to introduce rowing to those who might not otherwise take on that type of workout.

“This cause means a great deal to me, I lost my father to cancer and just last year I lost a dear and longtime friend of mine who was also a godparent to my daughter,” said Sidella. “It is important to me that people battling this disease get the support that they need. The funds raised by Row for a Reason help provide the many valuable free support groups and resources offered by Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach for those affected by cancer.”

Participants can sign up to row in half-hour time slots for a $50 donation and are encouraged to row at their own pace and invite friends to share the rowing with them. They are also encouraged to have friends and family donate to support their efforts. Sidella hopes to raise $25,000 for CSCRB this year.

“Lou Sidella and the Body One Fitness community have been amazingly supportive of CSCRB,” said Executive Director/CEO Paula Moore. “Their generosity makes a big impact on our ability to provide free programs of social and emotional support that are so vital to cancer patients and their loved ones.”

The event kick-off on Friday, September 6, will include food provided by Hermosa Fish Shop. BodySpec testing services will also be present from 1 to 7 p.m. and will donate 20 percent of proceeds for all fat scans performed to the event.
