RBPD announces scholarships

The Redondo Beach Police Department and the Redondo Beach Police Foundation are partnering to provide scholarships for the Redondo Union High Class of 2021. The scholarships are meant to encourage students to be civic minded.

A $2,500 Vision Scholarship will be awarded for an essay about the Police Department Vision Statement and the value of community engagement. Applicants are asked to describe a community engagement event that can be implemented by the Police Department and fulfills the Department’s vision.

A $500 Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship will be awarded for an essay detailing how the student demonstrates the values associated with Martin Luther King Jr. For more information contact Captain Jon Naylor at (310) 379-2477 ext. 2660. Or at Jon.Naylor@redondo.org.

Second Annual Redondo Beach King Celebration goes online

An online celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be hosted by the Redondo Beach Police Department on King’s birthday, Monday, Jan. 16., beginning at noon.

The theme is The Beloved Community: Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Making His Dream Our Reality. Tributes to King will be presented by local artists, musicians, and dancers. An unveiling of a plaque dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, legacy and leadership will also be featured.

The celebration may be viewed at Redondo.org.

Redondo candidates debate

Rescue Our Waterfront (ROW) will host a Redondo Beach candidate’s forum on Thursday, Feb. 4. The forum will be hosted on Zoom and may be viewed at the Rescue Our Waterfront Facebook page, ROW president Wayne Craig announced this week. For more details visit RescueOurWaterFront.com

RBYC installs new officers

Installed last week as the Redondo Beach Yacht Club’s Bridge Officers and Directors for 2020 were: Commodore Kieran Harrington, Vice Commodore Vicki Callahan, Rear Commodore Gretchen Maslanka, Staff Commodore Chuck Gant, Jr., Secretary Erin Walsh, Treasurer Gary Letho, and directors Kenneth Blight, Carl De La Fuente, Kirk Harrington, Karl Huff, Mike Mazza, and Robert Trombettar.
