A woman was found dead by Redondo Beach police in an apartment on the 1200 block of Agate Street in Redondo Beach this morning, according to a police statement released this afternoon.

Police received a call at 9:08 a.m. from New York asking police to check on the welfare of the woman.

Detectives are investigating the incident as homicide and suspect foul play.

Police are seeking Russell Scott Goldberg, 49, of Redondo Beach, who they described as a “person of interest.” Goldberg lived with the victim, according to neighbors. He is believed to be driving a 2007 Green Saturn Vue, with the California license plate: 6NAP316. The Saturn has a yellow bumper sticker affixed to the rear bumper diagonally, police said.

“It sucks, it’s a really safe neighborhood,” said George Perez, 32, who lives on Agate Street. Perez said the biggest issue in the neighborhood is parking. “From 6 to 8 p.m. that’s when the war begins,” he said, of street parking.

Another neighbor said she doesn’t feel safe. “It’s scary and unsettling,” said Ashley, who declined to give her last name. “It just shows that stuff like this can happen anywhere.” When she looked outside her window this morning and saw police, she thought a movie was being filmed, she said.

Police ask that anyone who encounters Goldberg call 911. Those with information about the man are encouraged to call the Redondo Beach Police Department at 310-937-6685 or text 310-339-2362.
