A man has died of multiple gunshot wounds suffered on a street in North Redondo Beach Friday night, according to police.

The Redondo Beach Police Department responded to a report of a man down at 8:05 p.m. on the 2300 block of Ralston Lane.

“He appeared to have been shot multiple times,” said Captain Jeff Hink of the Redondo Beach Police Department.

Neighbors who witnessed the incident described it as a “drive-by shooting.” They say that at least five shots were fired from a passing vehicle.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, died later in an undisclosed area hospital, according to Hink. Police believe the victim was near a relative’s house. No other details have been released as police continue to investigate.

“It’s an active investigation,” Hink said. “It’s too soon to tell the motive.”
