Redondo’s bid for a second straight CIF title fell short Saturday night when the Sea Hawks lost to former Bay League nemesis West Torrance.
After capturing the CIF-Southern Section Division 2AA title last season, Redondo (21-9) could not overcome 22 turnovers as West defeated the visitors 47-42 in a Division 1AA semifinals contest.
Third-seeded West (25-6) will face top-seeded Ventura (21-9) in the championship game either Friday or Saturday at a time and venue to be determined.
West is seeking its third consecutive CIF championship after winning the Division 1A and Division 2A titles the previous two seasons.
Redondo’s Nicole Swift nailed a 3-pointer with less than 20 seconds remaining in regulation to close the gap 45-42 but two free throws by West’s Hayley Tanabe preserved the win for the Warriors.
Kyra Hamlin led Redondo with 11 points while Diana Obinna added nine points for the Sea Hawks.
Kalei Atkinson had 10 points and Tanabe finished with nine points, three rebounds and four steals for West. The Warriors also received eight points from Isaan Taylor and six points from Katie Timmerman.
