Redondo didn’t miss a beat in its season opener routing defending CIF Division 1 champion West Torrance 82-48 in the Battle at the Beach tournament.

This season, Redondo has moved up into Division 1 after winning the CIF Division 2AA and State Division 2 titles last year. With 12 returning players, the team is loaded with talent.

Redondo jumped out to a 17-0 lead against West, then had a 16-3 run in the second quarter thanks to three 3-pointers by senior Dylan Horton.

Redondo never looked back as 13 of 15 Sea Hawks scored at least one basket.

Horton led the Sea Hawks with 24 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and three blocks. Sophomore Calli Stokes added 16 points and eight rebounds.

Redondo takes on Cathedral Catholic of San Diego today and will continue tournament play through Saturday.

Mira Costa, who has started the season with a 2-2 record, begins play in the Brentwood Invitational on Saturday when the girls take on Palmdale.

The team continues tournament action Monday against Los Angeles CES and on Wednesday against Birmingham. The finals will be held Saturday, Dec. 1.

Mira Costa is led by senior center Christine Garrison, junior guard Skylar Herdman, sophomore forward Hanaha Gedion, senior guard Ella Erich, junior center Olivia Eskenazi and sophomore guard Cara Susilo.
