Players on Redondo’s girls volleyball team got their wish Saturday earning an opportunity to avenge their loss to Marymount in the CIF Southern Section Division 1-AA Championship match.
Third-seeded Redondo (37-4) convincingly swept second-seeded Torrey Pines 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 on the road in the Division I Southern California Regional semifinals and will play at Marymount (35-5) Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Marymount swept Clovis West 25-18, 25-21, 25-13 in its semifinal match. Tuesday’s match marks the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. The winner advances to take on the St. Francis-Granite Bay winner in the State Championship match at 8 p.m. Saturday at Concordia University in Irvine.

Redondo’s serving game – which included nine aces – was a key in the Sea Hawk’s win at Torrey Pines. Ranked No. 1 in the country during the first half of the season, the Falcons had swept Redondo in the Durango Fall Classic in September before the Sea Hawks rattled off 30 consecutive wins before their loss to Marymount in the CIF title match.
Redondo played nearly mistake-free ball against Torrey Pines with Brianna Lanktree leading the team with 11 kills. Skylar Dykstra added 10 kills and 16 digs and Abril Bustamante had 20 digs.
Dykstra said she is not surprised her team bounced back from its loss in the CIF title match and is looking forward to facing Marymount again with the Southern California Regional title on the line.
“Coach stresses the importance of, “next play focus,” to us everyday and because of that we took the loss and moved forward, onto the next game and our next goal which is winning state,” Dykstra said. “The key to beating Marymount is to slow down their middles. We’ll need to do a better job than the last time we played them.”
The Marymount roster includes four players from Manhattan Beach including seniors Tori Jasuta, Chandler McGrath and Cassie Zimnoch and sophomore Mia Mason.
