The Redondo Beach Police Officers’ Association, in conjunction with the Redondo Beach Firefighters’ Association, recently announced that Santa will be returning to the streets of Redondo Beach this holiday season.

“After a short reprieve, Santa Claus and his little elves have agreed to take time out of their busy schedule to swing by our side of the glove,” a press release from the RBPOA said.

Santa’s journey through Redondo Beach was cut short last year because of staff and budget cuts and only made two stationary appearances at community parks.

They will begin their journey starting on the north end of Redondo Beach on November 26 and end at the south end of town on December 13.

The tradition was started by volunteer police and firefighters several decades ago and has been operated continuously up until last year. The sleigh has always been staffed by off-duty police officers and firefighters. Volunteers pull a “Santa sleigh” down Redondo Beach streets while giving out candy and asking kids what they want for Christmas.

“This is an opportunity for Redondo Beach’s public safety personnel to give back to the community and thank them for their support,” the release said.
