FILM
Silent screams: The Old Town Music Hall’s October Haunt series continues with the original silent version of “Phantom of the Opera” from 1925. Lon Chaney embodies the title character, a badly disfigured man in the catacombs of the Paris Opera House. Spooky, dramatic, stressful and memorable, this is one of those silent classics that will pull you in and never let you go. And of course, a silent horror film is all the more fun when accompanied live by the Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. Show times are Friday at 8:15 p.m., Saturday at 2:30 and 8:15 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Every show begins with music played on the pipe organ, an audience sing along and a comedy short. There is a 15-minute intermission, followed by the feature film. Admission: $10 ($8 for seniors 62 and older). Doors open and tickets go on sale at the El Segundo hall 30 minutes before show time. See oldtownmusichall.com.
THEATRE
Snip, snip: ‘Sweeney Todd in Concert’ comes to PV this weekend. Stephen Sondheim’s macabre musical masterpiece will be presented in concert, featuring a full 24-piece orchestra and costumed cast, and all the spectacular music from this classic tale of revenge. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Norris Theatre, 27570 Norris Center Drive, Rolling Hills Estates. Tickets: $35-$55. Information: PalosVerdes PerformingArts.com or 310-544-0403.
MUSIC
Cash in: Sara Dee’s “Ring of Fire” returns to the Hermosa Saloon on Friday night, bringing a fresh voice to the songs from the man in black. This musical force can belt out a Johnny Cash song with the power and grit to earn the respect of the country legend’s toughest fans. Dee’s voice is sultry, rich, and sweet. It sounds like a hybrid of Patsy Cline and Madeleine Peyroux. The Johnny Cash Tribute with Sara Dee & Friends will include two free sets with over 20 Johnny Cash and June Carter songs and duets, featuring South Bay’s own Sara Dee (guitar, vocals), Barclay Roach (lead guitar, vocals), Taylor Kennedy (drums), Nick Ornelas (upright bass) and Harry Machello (vocals). ONE NIGHT ONLY. Show starts at 10 p.m. Hermosa Saloon, 211 Pacific Coast Highway, Hermosa Beach. See SingSaraSing.com.

The Upside combines a classical sensitivity with contemporary harmonies and improvisation. Their unique timbres set them apart from a standard jazz trio. MUSIC

An unlikely pair: Tom Kell and Emiko Woods come to Live at the Lounge on Sunday night. A most remarkable duo – him, 63, her 23 – the duo has beautifully matched voices, rarely heard outside of family members. They’ve been likened, oddly enough, to the Every Brothers. Tom Kell was one of the most respected songwriters in the country/rock world for years, his songs recorded by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Kenny Rogers and others. His own recording career spanned 20 or so years, recording with J.D. Souther, Kenny Edwards and Karla Bonoff. He semi-retired from recording and took a job teaching music in a Christian children’s school in Long Beach, where he met 11-year-old Emiko Woods, whose mother implored Tom to teach her daughter songwriting. Impressed with Emiko’s natural talent, Tom began mentoring the young woman. Now, 12 years later, Tom Kell and Emiko Woods are writing songs together and performing regularly. The pair has written over 500 songs. They released their first gospel album, “Glory Bound,” and are heading back to thee studio in January to begin a new album, with Ben Harper producing. Live at the Lounge, 1018 Hermosa Ave., Hermosa Beach. Tickets are $15. Show begins at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 6:30. Information: comedyandmagicclub.com or call 310-372-1193.

WINE
Cheers, dears: Who would have guessed that The Deck would get a takeover and makeover of such drastic proportions that it now has a “wine night?” The folks that brought you Uncorked in Hermosa bring a touch of class to the pier with The Deck’s revamped rustic-chic space, plentiful wine selections and craft beer offerings. On Wednesday nights, all bottles of wine are half off., giving you a great excuse to share a bottle with a buddy while watching the sunset. And just in case you thought the place has gone too swanky, word on the street is that The Deck is the new best place to watch Patriots games, harking back to days of yore. The Deck, 1272 on the Strand in Hermosa Beach. Information: thedeckhermosa.com 310-921-8226.
