Aquatics: The Jimmy Miller Foundation and Hennessey’s presents the South Bay Dozen surf, paddleboard and surfski event on Saturday. Competition begins at 8 a.m. at Torrance Beach. The annual Rock-to-Rock paddleboard race will be held Sunday. Paddleboarders compete on the new 22.17-mile course from the Isthmus on Catalina Island to Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro beginning at 6:30 a.m. The $100 entry fee includes shirt, pre- and post-race meals and finishers’ awards. Volleyball: The City of Manhattan Beach hosts a Father’s Day beach volleyball tournament Sunday from 9 a.m. – noon on the south side of the Manhattan Beach Pier. Olympic gold medalist and former professional beach volleyball star Eric Fonoimoana will be holding an Elite Beach Volleyball Academy for two weeks at the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier. The goal of the camp is to produce Division 1 talent for girls to earn a beach scholarship and boys to become a better indoor player by becoming a better-rounded player. The Academy runs from 12-3 p.m. July 18-21 and July 25-28 for boys and girls ages 12-18. Boys and girls ages 8-11 meet from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. July 25-28. Boys and girls ages 8 to 18 years old are invited to take part in Beach Cities Volleyball’s Summer Indoor Volleyball Program. The program will be held in July and August allowing players of all skill sets, beginner to advanced, to have fun and improve their volleyball skills. Each week-long camp features a 5-star coach-to-player ratio and lunch or dinner for full-day participants. Full-day and half-day programs are available. Running: The 10th Annual Manhattan Beach 5K Summer Solstice race will be held Saturday at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The race is held on the morning of the year’s lowest tide, creating a wide, flat, fast, out-and-back course on hard packed sand. Entry fee $30. Kids races $25. Guinness World Record holder Christian Burke hosts the Hermosa 24 Ultramarathon Saturday and Sunday from noon to noon giving participants a chance to break his record of running in the sand for 83.04 miles in 24 hours. The 3.46-mile soft-sand course goes from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Solo and relay categories available with proceeds benefitting local schools. AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach is offering its Open Rock Wall and Ropes Course on Saturdays from 12-3 p.m. (Rock Wall is also open Sundays from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). Whether a single child, the whole family, or just a group of friends (Ages 5 and up for rock wall, 8 and up for ropes course), the course provides challenges of solving problems and overcoming obstacles. Groups of seven will start every hour and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the courses. Advance registration is recommended. Cost is $8-$20 depending on activities.
