On June 5, Palos Verdes Estates Police Officers, known as Guardians of the Flame, carried the Special Olympics torch across the Peninsula. The torch symbolizes courage and celebration of diversity, and uniting communities around the globe. The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) endorsed the Torch Run in 1983. The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) has become one of the largest fundraising groups for the Special Olympics.
