Last May, while David McGowan, President of the Palos Verdes Estates Foundation was having lunch at the Ranch Market in Malaga Cove, a lady approached and asked if he headed up the non profit that restores city projects. McGowan, not knowing what to expect next, said yes. This chance encounter with Palos Verdes Estates resident Maria Peters started a journey that led to a $75,000 restoration of the iconic symbol of the PVE community, The Neptune Fountain. The unveiling of the newly restored statue took place on July 17, just two months after Peters approached McGowan. The restoration included replacing plumbing and wiring, removing layers of faded paint and sealant along the base and replacing a cherub’s head. The fountain has been at Malaga Cove for 95 years and was a gift from the Palos Verdes Project in 1930.
