Spyder Surf Fest will celebrate local surf culture for the ninth consecutive year Saturday on Pier Plaza, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival will showcase the hottest surfers, brands, fashion, and music.

“As in years past, Spyder Surf Fest is all about the industry and families getting together and having fun as we continue to celebrate our surf culture,” said Spyder Surf’s Dennis Jarvis.

Legendary professional surfers as well as influential people in surf culture will meet fans and sign autographs.

“The top names in the surf, skate and action sports industry will join us for this day to help inspire and stoke out the next generation of youth,“ Jarvis said.

Notable surfers who have previously attended Surf Fest have included Tom Curren, Mark Occhilupo, Dane Reynolds, CJ Hobgood and Donavon Frankenreiter.

Surf industry will line Pier Plaza, giving out free swag and prizes.

“Spyder was one of the first retailers to carry HippyTree over a decade ago,” said HippyTree’s Mark Cole. “We’re always stoked to get involved with their events and spend a day hanging with our South Bay family. We’re going all out this year, bringing the whole tribe down and setting up our 20-foot tall teepee.”

Sharing center stage in front of Watermans Safe House (where the afterparty will be held) will be the Annual  Action Sports Lifestyle Fashion Show and live performances by Kevin Sousa, Jeremy Buck, Electric Parlor, ‘80s retro band M80’s, and 14-year-old singer songwriter Jamisen Jarvis.

“It’s been an honor to emcee and perform at this event on the pier for the past few years,” said Sousa. “To support a homegrown shop like Spyder and pass on the stoke is what Hermosa is all about.”

The South Bay Quiksilver Triple Crown of Retro Surfing will debut on the south side of the Hermosa Beach at 7 a.m. It will be the first of three events going into the summer that will celebrate surfing’s past. Participants will compete on boards from specific eras. Saturday’s contest will feature boards from the ‘80s. The winner of the Triple Crown will be crowned on August 20, the new date for the annual Weekend of Surf and the Hermosa Beach Surfing Walk of Fame inductions.

“Spyder Surf Fest is not just about keeping action sports alive in Hermosa alone, but an extremely important reminder of how much our town has contributed to the sport,” Jarvis said. “It is truly one of the original birthplaces of surfing in the USA.”

The ninth annual Spyder Surf Fest includes returning and presenting sponsor Kinecta Credit Union, as well as Monster Energy and Electric sunglasses. Participating brands include Sanuk, SPY, Quiksilver, Billabong, Hurley, Volcom, Vissla, HippyTree, and more. ER
