Tyler Hatzikian, Adam Davenport and Josh “Tiger Beat” Gilberts catch up on the latest. In between laminations, Hatzikian reads cover-to-cover while working up a sweat on the exercise bike in training for the Bombora’s of the South Bay.

Week of Nov. 9th-16th 2012

It’s been a slow week in the surf department as a massive high tide and miniscule swell all week shut the South Bay’s breaks down  like the Laker’s under  former coach Mike Brown’s reign. But with a little swell cordoroying in this weekend, things look up (as well as for the Laker’s with the recent hiring of  Mike D’Antoni).

The buzz of the November issue of Drop Zone is spreading like a wild-fire all over the South Bay with requests for the publication to reach a few nooks and crannies in Orange County. With an edition in tribute to the late Donald Takayama commemorated with a mid-60s surf magazine aesthetic and special contributions from other legendary surfers and shapers, this issue is considered by many as a collector’s issue. (shoot, I got my signed by Hap following suit from the dude above.)

Alex Gray, Garrett McNamara and Jamie O’Brien Invited to the 28th Annual Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau

Redondo Beach, CA, [November 13, 2012]– Alex Gray, Garrett McNamara and Jamie O’Brien are three of the invitees to the 2013 Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau. Body Glove is honored to have three of their team riders invited to participate in this monumental event. “That’s it, it’s the Holy Grail of surfing,” says Alex Gray.

The Quiksilver Eddie, held at Waimea Bay, is a one-day, big wave invitational surfing event, which requires waves of 20ft or more. The event-holding period begins December 1st and concludes February 28th. When Quiksilver caught up with Alex Gray and surprised him with his invitation Gray said “it’s the greatest honor of my life.”
