The top four scorers in the Premier League 2021/22 so far

The race to the Golden Boot has commenced once again in this season’s Premier League. Harry Kane managed to clinch the prestigious award previously with 23 goals, narrowly missing Mohamed Salah’s clutches.

Although it is a bit early to finalize the top scorer for the season, we have put together four top scorers of the Premier League so far to see how each contender improves or disappoints. We also have a few new interesting candidates and returnees, such as Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) and Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea) and both will definitely make a dent in this year’s race to the Golden Boot.

Here are our top four scorers in the Premier League 2021/22 so far:

  1. Michael Antonio – West Ham 4 goals

West Ham have been killing it in the Premier League lately and have started their new campaign with a five-match unbeaten run, and Antonio is integral to this success. Unfortunately, he will miss their upcoming Premier League clash with Manchester United on Sunday after he received a red card in their goalless draw against Southampton recently.

This could serve as quite a blow to the team as the Jamaican striker is the only frontman in the squad. However, the suspension could serve as a much-needed break for Antonio. He has achieved a lot so far in the league and goes into the weekend as one of the top scorers with four goals so far. He has three assists and also managed to net a goal against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League, securing a group stage victory.

  1. Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United 4 goals

Bruno Fernandes and Michael Antonio had to go head-to-head recently in an intense Hammers vs Red Devils game. Unfortunately, Fernandes’s attempt to net a goal did not count as the drop balls rule states:

“the referee drops the ball for one player of the team that last touched the ball at the position where it last touched a player, an outside agent or a match official.

“All other players (of both teams) must remain at least 4 m (4.5 yds) from the ball until it is in play.”

West Ham went on to win the match, much to Manchester United’s dismay. However, the Portuguese striker can still be hopeful for a Golden Boot this year after coming in third in the 2020/21 season with 18 goals. Although many expected Ronaldo’s arrival to impact Fernandes’ goal-scoring opportunities, it seems the opposite. Both Portugal teammates seem to operate perfectly.

  1. Mohamed Salah – Liverpool 3 goals

Salah is on a mission to right the wrongs of last season’s Premier League where he narrowly missed out on the Golden Boot. The Egyptian King is already a two-time winner of the honourable award, and he is definitely trying to bag it for the third time. Check out Liverpool FC Matchday Hospitality packages if you want to watch him live.

Salah has also appeared to hit another goal-scoring milestone this weekend last weekend. Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager, admiringly congratulates his star striker for hitting the landmark of 100 Premier League goals as he netted the opener during the Reds’ 3-0 win at Leeds United. Astonishingly, it only took him 162 games to get there, and he has scored 98 goals ever since joining Liverpool.

“A player who epitomises our insatiable appetite to achieve more recorded an incredible milestone at Elland Road last week. Mo Salah scored his 100th Premier League goal that afternoon,” the boss writes.

“He really is an inspirational figur, and as a club, we have benefited so much from his hunger for goals. And that’s not to forget all his assists.”

  1. Cristiano Ronaldo – Manchester United 3 goals

Finishing last season as top scorer in Serie A, Ronaldo is certainly looking to bag the Premier League Golden Boot. The Portuguese striker exceeded expectations with two goals in his first game back. Despite being 36 and near retirement, Ronaldo continues to portray excellent form and serves as a beacon of hope for many Manchester United fans this season.

The star striker also appears in Sportingbet’s list of the 11 Greatest Premier League Players, and for good reason. The world-class star is expected to be integral to Manchester United’s chance at the Premier League title this season.
