To win the Calcutta purse, which exceeded the Manhattan Open purse, where he placed 13th two weeks ago, Curt Toppel’s team had to get past Olympic gold medalist Eric Fonoimoana’s team in the semi-finals. In the finals, he matched up against his former AVP partner Dave McKenzie.
“You can’t teach tall,” announcer Frank Layton, head coach Utah Jazz, said following Toppel’s team’s victory.
“Gator” Tomlinson was presented the Lee Campbell MVP award. ER
