Torrance police pursue, take in suspect in Redondo

Police lights and a helicopter spotlight in the area of Avenues A, B and C last Friday evening, Oct. 1,  were involved in the pursuit of a suspect who fled the scene of a car accident.

According to Sergeant Mark Ponegalek of the Torrance Police Department, officers initially pulled over a vehicle at 5:30 p.m. at Pacific Coast Highway and Palos Verdes Boulevard in Torrance.

The car yielded at first, then drove off. A police pursuit ensued, continuing to Gertruda Avenue and Avenue D in Redondo Beach, where the vehicle collided with a tree.

After the driver fled on foot, the Torrance P.D. set up a perimeter and a helicopter searched overhead.

The suspect was taken into custody “a short time later,” according to the police report, and arrested for hit-and-run (the tree) and felony evading. ER
