Skechers Meeting
Hermosa Beach will host a meeting next Monday evening to discuss potential environmental impacts of a proposal by shoe manufacturer Skechers to build a series of buildings on Pacific Coast Highway.
Skechers’ proposal includes a design center and executive offices running along the west side of PCH in the far north edge of Hermosa. The proposal also includes two corporate office buildings north of the border with Manhattan Beach, but Hermosa’s Community Development Department will be the lead agency handling the environmental impact review (EIR) process.
The company had previously prepared for an EIR scoping, but modified its plans at the close of 2015 due to neighborhood opposition. Among the changes Skechers implemented were scaling down the size of the facilities and adding a ground-floor retail element  near the intersection of PCH and Longfellow Avenue. The upcoming report will respond to the modified plan submissions.
The meeting will take place at City Council Chambers from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Residents can offer suggestions about the issues that the project’s future EIR should consider. Comments about the scope of the EIR may also be submitted to Community Development Director Ken Robertson by June 30.
Leadership Project Unveiling
The Leadership Hermosa Class of 2016 will unveil artwork this Saturday that will soon grace utility boxes around the city.
Seven boxes scattered throughout the city will soon be covered with designs from local artists as part of the leadership group’s community service project. The art will be unveiled in a celebration at Rok Sushi at 1200 Hermosa Ave. from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Fine Arts Festival
More than 100 works of art will be on display this weekend for the annual Hermosa Beach Fine Arts Festival at the Community Center lawn.
The festival will run Saturday and Sunday, and features juried art works, student art exhibits, face painting, food trucks, craft beer tasting and a DJ.
