Avoid package theft

The Redondo Beach Police Department (RBPD) has been receiving multiple reports of theft of packages during this holiday season. Generally, packages thieves follow delivery trucks, wait for them to deposit items in front of an unoccupied home, and steal the package once the truck has left.

To avoid becoming the victim of a package theft, the RBPD advises residents to take the following measures: arrange to be home when a delivery is expected; have packages sent to a local Fedex or UPS store to be held for pickup; arrange for a neighbor to take the delivery; have the package rerouted to a place of trust or a workplace; demand signature proof of delivery; keep the tracking number and closely follow progress of the package online; and to call 911 upon witnessing suspicious activity.
