Video recalls Fonomoiana, Blanton Olympic Gold

Ten Years ago, Mira Costa High graduate Eric Fonoimoana and Dane Blanton of Laguna Beach upset Brazilians Ricardo Santos and Ze Marco to win the beach volleyball Olympic gold medal at the 2000 Olympics on Bondi beach in Sydney, Australia Fonoimoana and Blanton were ranked only ninth and had lost four times that year to the Brazilians.

In “Hometown Glory,” an emotional and fact-filled video  by Jonathan Pascual of Planet Zaya Videos, Fonoimoana and Blanton recall the work that got them to the Olympics and the moment they won gold. The video premiered at Waterman’s in Hermosa Beach last month during a 10th anniversary celebration of their Olympic gold victory. The party benefited Dig for Kids, a foundation founded by Fonoimoana to provide after school tutoring and coaching for underprivileged kids. (www.DigForKids.org)
