Local camping enthusiasts and nature lovers donโ€™t have to travel far to find an authentic wildlife community. Redondo Beachโ€™s Hopkins Wilderness Park, an 11-acre camping and study area, sits high upon the El Segundo Sand Hills and provides an apt getaway from an urban environment. With a wide spread of meadows, water streams and ponds housing turtles, crayfish and bullfrogs, Wilderness Park welcomes visitors as well as day and overnight campers (reservation required). The park is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily except Wednesdays.

Kids ages 8 to 12 have the opportunity to explore nature by participating in the Wilderness Campโ€”weekly sessions from June 24 to August 16โ€”which includes hands-on activities, games, crafts, fieldtrips and potlucks based on weekly themes including โ€œRocks Rock,โ€ โ€œArt of Natureโ€ and โ€œRainforest Fun.โ€
