Hermosa Beach About Town

‘Carrie’ comes home

Hermosa Beach will screen the hit 1976 horror flick “Carrie” at the Community Theater this Thursday evening. The movie, adapted from a Stephen King novel, tells the story of a teenager with supernatural powers; the Community Center, home of the former Pier Avenue Junior High, was used for filming, and the evening will include a look at several shooting locations. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a reception hosted by the Hermosa Historical Society. The screening begins at 8 p.m. and will last about 90 minutes. Tickets are $10, and attendance is limited to those 18 and over.

Halloween Carnival

The Hermosa View and Valley Parent Teacher Organization host the annual Halloween Carnival on the field at Hermosa Valley this Friday afternoon. The volunteer-run event will feature game and snack booths, a food court, a dunk tank, and a haunted house, all run by Hermosa students and parents. There will also be a raffle, and all money raised at the event will go to support city schools.

Living Streets meeting

Hermosa, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach will jointly host a study session devoted to the Living Streets Design Manual Monday night. The meeting will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Redondo Main Library at 303 N. Pacific Coast Hwy. No vote will be taken, and each city will separately consider the manual’s policies on its own. Those with Hermosa-specific questions should contact Environmental Analyst Leanne Singleton at (310) 318-0252.
