Black SUVs used in two MB assaults

Two different men were assaulted and robbed in Manhattan Beach by men who drove away in black SUVs, in what police believe were unrelated attacks during the week of Sept. 5 to Sept. 11.

On Sept. 7 at about 1 a.m., a man was placing his belongings in his vehicle near the corner of 6th Street and Manhattan Avenue when a black SUV with five young men inside pulled up. Two of them exited the car and tried to start a fight with the victim and then assaulted him.

During the attack, a necklace was ripped from the man’s neck and one of the suspects dropped a switchblade. The victim ran after his attackers as they fled, but then the three other young men exited the SUV and assaulted the victim a second time.

They then took off in the SUV. The Manhattan Beach Police Department is conducting an on-going investigation into the incident. The victim in this case declined medical treatment, MBPD Sgt. Andy Abreu told Easy Reader, in an email. “The necklace was found in the street and given back to the victim.”

The second incident occurred on Sept. 11 on the 1300 block of Parkview Avenue where a man carrying a briefcase was robbed.

The man was walking in a parking lot when he noticed the black SUV.  The man was pushed from behind and fell to the pavement.

The suspect grabbed the man’s briefcase and jumped into the passenger side of the black SUV,  which drove away. MBPD is conducting an ongoing investigation into this incident, as well.

“This victim sustained minor injuries and sought medical treatment,” Abreu said.

The suspect in this case appeared to be an adult who was covering his face in a hoodie.

“The incidents don’t appear to be related at this time,” Abreu said.

MBPD to hold Town Hall Meeting

The MBPD will hold its quarterly Town Hall meeting, where residents can meet with officers and ask questions, on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Joslyn Center.

Residents may submit questions to be answered by MBPD Chief Rachel Johnson to ASKACOP@manhattanbeach.gov.

HBPD finds four guns in car with seven people

Hermosa Beach Police Department officers arrested seven individuals who were driving through the city around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3 with four loaded handguns.

HBPD stopped the car on Pacific Coast Highway and found an open container of alcohol.

After a search, four loaded handguns were discovered, none of them registered and two of which had expanded magazines.

All seven individuals, including three juveniles, were arrested.

Hermosa dog licenses available

Dog licenses, which are required for all Hermosa dogs, are now available for the 2025 year.

Licenses are $26 for spayed or neutered dogs and $109 for non-spayed and non-neutered dogs. The cost of dog licenses for seniors 60 and older is $13 for sterile dogs and $54 for non-sterile dogs.

Dog owners must provide proof of sterility as well as proof of a rabies vaccination. Hermosa Beach will hold its annual rabies vaccination clinic, where dogs can get shots free of charge, on Oct. 3 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Clark Field.

Home burglarized, tools stolen in Redondo

Three male burglars broke into a home on the 2000 block of Robinson Street on Sunday night Sept. 9 and fled when the resident came home.

The suspects got away with jewelry, including a Van Cleef bracelet and four rings, a handbag, shoes and sandals and cash. The burglars entered the locked residence by cutting the screen on an open bedroom window.

There were three vehicle burglaries in Redondo Beach during the week of Sept. 6 through Sept. 12, including one in which thieves made off with multiple saws, drills and other tools.

Burglars smashed the driver’s side window of a Ford Transit SUV parked on Catalina sometime between Sept. 3 and Sept. 4 and took five saws, including a Milwaukee circular saw and two skill saws as well two chuck drills, an oscillator and multiple other tools and copper wire.

On Sept. 11, on the 1500 block of Hawthorne Blvd., thieves smashed the rear window of a Ford Explorer SUV and stole three suitcases, a Dell laptop, an Acer laptop, an iPad 9th generation computer, dental magnifying glasses and two U.S passports.

On Sept. 1 thieves stole 100 CDs, sunglasses and cash from a Dodge Durango SUV parked on the 700 block of Avenue B.

A suspect tried and failed to enter a Kia Forte by jamming the driver’s side door lock on the 2400 block of Harriman Lane in early September. ER
