‘Party Patrol’ cites 9

On Feb. 24, a “party patrol” operation was conducted by police in Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and El Segundo.

Six juveniles were cited for curfew violations between 10 p.m. and midnight. One was cited for minor in possession of alcohol and two for minor in possession of alcohol on school grounds. A report was also taken for one juvenile being drunk in public and resisting officers.

The party patrol deployment is an enforcement program where officers will seek out underage drinking parties and other juvenile related offenses. Officers also seek out adults who furnish alcohol to minors or host an underage drinking party. Adults hosting underage drinking parties are cited for furnishing alcohol to minors and for violating the social host ordinance.

“The goal of the party patrol program is to keep our youth safe through strict enforcement,” police said in a statement.

Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and El Segundo police departments received a $50,000 grant that extends to June 30, 2012, to reduce alcohol-related crimes throughout the cities. This includes providing training to personnel in stores or restaurants licensed to sell alcohol, training patrol officers, and conducting inspections and sting operations to find out whether licensed establishments are following state laws and local operating permits.
