We finally get a glimpse of old Sangria’s new exterior as it transforms itself into American Junkie. I sorta kinda shimmied past the yellow tape to boldly sneak a peek inside. Before I was asked to leave, I did some intense scoping for my readers and noticed they’ve replaced the corner bar with a much bigger bar along the entire length of the west wall. Didn’t get much more, as I was told I’m not supposed to be there. Meh! Sweet, sweet anticipation.
Delicious Discovery: Seasonal Vegetable Taster at Establishment. Even vegetable haters will love this dish. It comes with tofu which you could skip, but why? People say their Happy Hour is currently the best deal in town in regards to price, food quality, and portion size. I agree. M-F 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. boasts: two drinks for the price of one, and truly delicious $5 food. Try the macaroni and cheese made with gorgonzola, or get 4 tri-tip sliders. Portions are big enough to share, but you won’t want to! For 5 bucks, just get your own. Being a Taurus, inherently makes me a foodie AND super snobby wine snob by proxy. Don’t overlook their astounding Merlot. Good company too, with some pretty cute Kings fans hanging around. Or one really spunky Blackhawks fan in particular. Though Blue 32 was known for being a sausage fest in the past, I have noticed a good amount of real sexy ladies on a regular basis. Girls, keep dressing up. It’s our duty to keep this place a “pretty people” mecca. Dependable eye candy. Friday/Saturday nights promise really fun dancing with DJ Eric B.
My Favorite Thing Week #12: Old Rasputin Burger at Hot’s Kitchen. Fried fungus, rasputin sauce, roasted tomato, goat cheese, and dijion mustard. Yummy. Just the right size. Small, and full of flavor. Feel so good about not gorging yourself, you can call it healthy. Slow down and savor it. Only $6
Must mention my recent April 4th radio interview with Sam Edgerton, former 4 time mayor of Hermosa Beach. As guest on his show, “Sammy on the Sand,” I got to chit chat all about South Bay nightlife. Don’t worry it’s been archived. Listen here: www.healthylife.net/RadioShow/archiveSAM.htm You know Sam; he’s the hot shot, big time attorney with the to-die-for corner office view that really should be a restaurant. Make up some sort of excuse to go up there and check it out. Maybe file a lawsuit? Some people say it’s like floating in God’s hands.
Bartender of the Week: Gina Pasquarella at The Office Downtown in El Segundo. Known for being the “Sassiest Broad in Town.” She makes shots that play on her name, all ending in –gyna. Like Sour Gyna, Slippery Gyna. Prima Gyna. My personal favorite is: Shark Week Gyna (it’s red). Gina is inventive, entertaining, genuine, interesting, down to earth, and smart as she is pretty – which is to say very both. She believes the best bartenders have a great smile, personality, and show attentiveness. Local salty dog Scott speaks for everyone when he says, “We love Gina.” Come visit her on Thursday and Saturday nights.
