Death in pool
Police have identified the 53-year-old Long Beach woman found dead at the bottom of a pool on Saturday morning, July 14. Trina Marie Heard-Broughton was staying as a guest at a friend’s home in the 2100 block of Loma Drive, police said. She was discovered at the bottom of the pool at about 8 a.m. After paramedics unsuccessfully attempted to revive her, Heard was pronounced dead at the scene, said detective Mick Gaglia in a press release.
Heard was in possession of several medications and had consumed alcoholic beverages the night before, police said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the coroner’s office is investigating the official cause of death, but no signs of foul play were discovered and the cause of death appears to be accidental, police said.

Children looking for a home
Six children from Columbia looking for a home in the United States will be available to interact with prospective families at the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club on Sunday, July 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The four girls and two boys, ages 5 to 18, are visiting the United States through Kidsave, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help children without families find one. Attempted puppy theft
Two adult men tried to forcibly take a Pit Bull puppy from its owner in the 00 block of 14th Street on Monday, July 16 at about 7:50 p.m. The suspects attempted to strong-arm the dog owner but were unsuccessful in taking the puppy, police said. They fled before police arrived on the scene.
Afternoon burglary
An unknown suspect entered an apartment through an open upper level window in the 300 block of Gull Street between 2:20 and 6:05 p.m. on July 3. The resident said a laptop, another computer, a video game console and coins were stolen, according to police.
