The North LA Pulse is a monthly feature highlighting the top performers of each swell as seen through the lens of photographer Justin Mehren.

September kicked off with a solid pulse of swell from the South, followed by the first North West swell of the fall season. After a short break the month, closed out with a good run of combo swells combined with perfect conditions. September offered a variety of swell with a little bit of everything, as the points and the beach breaks turned on.

Pulse One: The south brought the points to life with consistent lines and great conditions. The stand out of the day was Noah Erickson, who had just returned from Europe the day before. During this session Noah nailed the “Pulse of the Month” with a near full rotation air reverse. Chad Marshall showed up and put on a show, highlighted by a ten from the top of the point to the bottom.

Pulse Two:  Forecasts are not always accurate. Day one of the new swell was a big disappointment. That evening the buoys increased and the following day Sean Johnson and Sean Woods scored. The two traded waves and barrels in oil glass conditions, pushing each other deeper on each wave.

Pulse Three: The final pulse brought typical fall conditions as the NW and SW swells mixed together to create perfectly ripable peaks with light off-shore winds all day. Joe Rickabaugh and Tyler Morris found a familiar sand bar and paddled out for a marathon session. DZ
