City to hold 9/11 memorial

Manhattan Beach will host a commemoration for the 10-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks on Sunday. The event will take place in front of the 9/11 memorial at 15th Street and Valley Drive at 8 a.m. A reception will follow.

New voyagers welcome

Parents and children, start packing for this year’s camping trips to Yucaipa, Big Bear and Catalina with the South Bay Voyagers. The YMCA Adventure Guides group will hold a recruitment meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at American Martyrs O’Donnell Hall to introduce the program to potential participants. High waves hit Manhattan Beach

Originating off the coast of New Zealand, a powerful storm crossed most of the Pacific Ocean and caused high waves in Manhattan Beach late last week.

Community meeting for new library

The city is holding a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of the Manhattan Beach police and fire departments to present information and solicit public input on the design and functionality of the new library building, a $22.7 million project that includes demolishing the existing library and creating a building twice the size in its place to include adult and teen reading rooms, community meeting rooms, a homework center, express checkout machines and public computers.

Dispose of electronic waste

Mira Costa football and cheer programs are teaming up with All Green Electronics Recycling to host a car wash and recycling collection at Manhattan Beach Unified District offices. All Green Electronics Recycling accepts computers, monitors, printers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, and other electronic equipment — anything with a plug and circuit board. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 325 S. Peck Ave. Manhattan Beach. $5 donation for a car wash, recycling is free.
