Passing the torch
Former Mayor Richard Montgomery passed the torch to Mayor Nick Tell at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. Mayor Tell vowed to try to hold shorter City Council meetings. “I know we will do great things over the next 10 months, let’s just try to do them before midnight,” he said to a full crowd.

Former mayor recognized
Councilmember Richard Montgomery will receive the 2011 Boy Scouts of America Good Scout Award for his leadership in the business and civic world. The event will take place today at 1600 Rosecrans Ave. from 5 to 8 p.m. Requested ticket donation is $100.

Former councilmember’s email hacked
If you received an email from Portia Cohen requesting money after a trip to Spain, ignore it. “It’s fake,” said Helen Duncan, president of the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Police and fire to train at high school
Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach police and fire departments will undergo critical incident response training tomorrow and Saturday at Mira Costa High School. This will include “active shooter” simulations to test officer and personnel response. Volunteers will pretend to be victims, witnesses, students and school staff. The departments request that passersby follow the signage, barricades, yellow police tape and personnel instructions.

Concerts in the park
The 60’s tribute band, Aquarius, will rock out in Polliwog Park this Sunday. 5 to 7 p.m. Free.
