Final election results coming Thursday

The Redondo Beach Municipal Election 2023 final vote totals are set to be announced at noon Thursday. 

As of Tuesday, more than 3,700 votes remained to be counted, according to City Clerk Eleanor Manzano.

She will report the final results in a broadcast from city hall, which may be viewed in person or on Spectrum Cable Channel 8, Frontier Cable Channel 41, or on the city’s website. 

Initial totals were released on election night, March 7. Paige Kaluderovic led Candace Nafissi in the District Three city council race 932 votes to 841.

Ballots counted in the original tally totaled 7,057 – for all races and ballot measures.

Those counted after election night include ballots from the drop boxes throughout the city, and received by the Post Office Tuesday, March 7 — along with any postmarked by Election Day and arriving within one week.

In other races, for city treasurer, Eugene Solomon leads Matthew Kilroy 3,512 to 3,077; and  Redondo Unified school board incumbent Raymur Flinn leads with 3,839 votes followed by Byung Cho with 3,741 and Jerome Chang 3,293. Two seats are open on the board.

 

Food Network films on Redondo Pier

A film set appearing on the Redondo Beach Pier for the last two weeks is a Food Network production of its show “Beachside Brawl: East Coast vs. West Coast..” 

The project began work Feb. 27 with its permit  effective through March 23. The show features teams of four cooks from both coasts in a competition to decide who makes the best summer food. 

The Redondo Beach Fire Department grants film permits within the city. 

 

Dry cleaners food drive runs to March 31

Flair Cleaners in Redondo Beach hosts its eighth annual “Flair Cares Food Drive” through March 31, to benefit the Food Pantry LAX and Salvation Army Santa Monica. Flair will match donations of up to 250 pounds of donated food.

“Food insecurity is a growing challenge in our communities, especially with inflation and “shrinkflation,” on almost every type of food product,” said Gary Futterman, Flair Cleaners owner. “We are proud to help address this challenge with the help of our generous customers by collecting and matching donations of critically needed food for local nonprofits.”

Canned, unopened or boxed food may be brought to the Redondo Beach location at 1900 Artesia Boulevard. ER
