Friday through Sunday, Oct. 2, 3, and 4

Robert Enriquez has been upbeat about the now-annual Sunscreen Film Festival (this is its third year), and it’s back again for three days in the big theater (and little theater) of the Hermosa Beach Community Center.

Once again, also, one can buy day passes ($50) or go for the whole platter ($150), which includes that day’s films, panel discussions, and parties. The selection committee has chosen from a large number of submissions, and these include blocks of short films, documentaries, and some eye-opening feature films.

Altogether, roughly 80 films will be shown.

Marvel’s Vice President of Production Mitch Bell is expected to be in attendance, as well as producer David Brookwell. The Saturday evening Red Carpet Event features actor Ron Perlman (starring in “Desiree”), who will be honored with a lifetime achievement award.

Among the highlighted films is the documentary “Next Goal Wins,” which follows the American Samoa National Soccer team and the coach who helps them train for a World Cup qualifying match. It’s a bittersweet film (the coach has lost a daughter; one of the players is a transgender individual). A question-and-answer panel follows the screening (Friday night, 7:45 to 10 p.m.).

One can, of course, buy individual tickets. For a complete list of films and when they’re being shown, go to ssffwest.com. ER
