Closing, Moving and Opening Anew: Our beloved Stephen Dominigue and family at Ragin’ Cajun, Pier Ave, HB will be serving their last Po’ Boys to us poor Hermosans at the end of this month before closing the doors and heading north to the El Segundo Plaza, Sepulveda just north of Rosecrans. The new joint is set to open in March…

More Moves in March: Baja Sharkeez, Highland Ave north of Rosecrans, MB will be moving to the old Harry O’s location, (most recently Upper Manhattan), a few blocks south on Highland just in time for March Madness. The new joint will have a 2 a.m. closing every night (as opposed to just Fridays and Saturdays), plus live entertainment and dance permits. Also as it is practically brand-new and already decked out with high tech fixtures and equipment, the move should be an easy one. The switch will take place around March 1 and the good times will continue to roll at the old location until then. For more info call 310.545.6563 or check out sharkeez.net…

Now Open: Charlie’s, PCH, RB in the space previously occupied by Cialuzzi’s. Owner Charlie Byrd has teamed up with Steven Roberts of Café Boogloo fame to open a sports bar with some damn good NY Italian food. I went by recently and shared the veal parmigiana with fellow bartender Lisa Jarret (Grunions, Sepulveda, MB), and let me tell you, this was some kick ass veal! I’ve learned through my years of wining and dining that there are certain foods that don’t live in the grey and veal is one of them: It’s either amazing or terrible so I tend to use it as one of my guides to the quality of the kitchen. This kitchen gets an A+. I also dig the authentic NYC steel manhole cover molded into the concrete floor at the front door – nice touch. The restaurant side is small and only open for dinner but the bar side is a huge open space with big flat screen TVs surrounding the horseshoe shaped bar and lining the walls. If you haven’t been by, go and give Charlie a nice, “a-o!” in congrats and good luck on the new venture…

Celeb Sighting: The producer of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” was spotted having a meal at Lido di Manhattan, Rosecrans last week just days before Gordon Ramsay filmed his follow-up to the “Kitchen Nightmares” episode which aired last March. The date for the follow-up show is yet to be determined so stay tuned, you just might see a Barfly on TV…

More Local Joints on TV: Two Sundays ago, December 19, after the New York Jets beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 22-17 in snowy PA, CBS Sports Central showed up at Shark’s Cove, Hermosa Ave, HB to see how the fans were taking the loss. The Cove is a known Pittsburgh bar as owners Shane and Scott McColgan brought a piece of their hometown to the beach years ago and then expanded with a second Shark’s Cove on Manhattan Beach Boulevard, MB. The fans seemed to be taking it well, saying they hope to meet the Jets again in the playoffs and get even. For that to happen the Jets have to beat the Patriots and the Stealers have to beat the Ravens in this week’s AFC divisional playoffs. We’ll see…

South Bay Special: Keep your eyes open for the first annual keepsake restaurant menu reference guide being published by the Easy Reader on Thursday, Jan. 27. Owners make sure you don’t get left out in the cold as the deadline is next Wednesday, Jan. 19. I know I will be keeping mine on the coffee table for quick reference…

Speaking of Cold: Yes we have gotten hit a bit by Father winter this year but we really are spoiled out here. I was complaining to my dad about our weather the other day (he’s in NY), and he says, “Cold? Really? Whatchoo got, 55 out there? I’m up to my balls in snow! Put a sweater on before you go ride your bike on The Strand you poor thing.” Yeah, we don’t have it so bad…
