Best of the Beach 2016, Best Chain Hamburger: In & Out
Most people don’t realize the cult status of In & Out burgers until they have a houseguest who schedules a trip there every day of their visit. It’s as much a symbol of California as the bear on our state flag. (Maybe more so, since that bear is extinct and In & Out is still alive and well.) In & Out serves the burger that made burgers famous, a recipe straight from the 1950s, before vast quantities of preservatives and premade items joined the mainstream. You’ll wait just a bit longer to get them because they’re freshly made, but burger aficionados insist they’ll be worth the wait.
